A little distance to the west
brings you to Kalkan, a lovely small hilltop town that
overlooks a tiny bay. Its quaint traditional white-washed
houses, shuttered windows and balconies garlanded with
brilliant flowers that cascade to the streets below, make it
the ultimate in a peaceful holiday town. Narrow winding
streets lined with souvenir shops lead down to the charming
marina. Every morning boats busily take tourists to one of
the nearby beaches or small bays. As the sun sets, it is
Kalkan style to meet on the roof terraces for a drink before
dinner and enjoy the comings and goings of the yachts, the
business of the marina and the panoramic view.

Antique City
The history of Letoon is closely linked with that of
Xanthos. It is known to have been one of the most important
religious centers of the Lycian region. Due to the rising
water level, archeological digs have been suspended. The
remains unearthed indicate they belong to the period between
the 7th century B.C. and the 6th century A.D. The most
important edifice is the Greek style theater which has been
preserved until our day.

Kaputas
Beach
Hundreds of years ago a huge chasm opened up the side of the
mountain face and spilled its contents out to sea. The gorge
has dried up, but what's left is Kaputas Beach, a small,
sandy patch 400 steps down from the highway that feels like
the middle of nowhere. From here, it's just a short swim to
some nearby phosphorescent caves.
