This site is the ancient Myra
(25 km to the west of Finike) and it is best known for St,
Nicholas, the bishop of this Mediterranean city during the
4th century, who died here in 342 A.D. Every year in
December the St. Nicholas Commemoration Ceremony is held,
attracting many tourists who spend their Christmas holiday
on the sunny coast of ancient Lycia. In ancient Myra, many
rock tombs overlook the splendid theater. Dalyanagzi, the
ancient harbor of Andriace, 6 km west of Demre, is perfect
for swimming as well as relaxing on the sandy beaches.
Simena Antique City (Kalekoy)
This is reached by sea from Ucagiz. The beauty of Simena
lies in its blending of history, sea and sun. Here one is
fascinated by the remains of ancient civilizations lying
under the blue and translucent waters of the Mediterranean.
Kale's history dates back to the Lycian era, but remains of
Lycian, Roman and later eras are piled on top of each other.
The theatre carved out of the rocks is one of the smallest
of Lycia. The walls were built in Roman times but it is
thought that additions were made in later eras.

St.Nicholas
Church
Present day Demre (Myra) was the town where Saint Nicholas,
the giff-bearing Santa Claus or Father Christmas, served as
a bishop. Affer his death, in the oth century, the church
was built in ramemberance of the man of good deeds and
patron saint of sailors, in ihe 11th century, Italian seamen
broke into his sarcophagus and fook his remains to the
Italiancifyof Barl Segmentsof the sarcophagus are exhibited
at the Antalya Museum. The International Santa Claus
Festival, held in Demre and Kas every December 6-8, has been
turned into a symposium, which leaders of many faiths attend.

Kekova
Island (Sunken City)
Kekova is an island an hour from Dalyanagzi by sea as well
as the name of a whole ensemble of picturesque islands,
numerous bays and ancient cities. These bays provide natural
harbors in all seasons , and yachtsmen particularly enjoy
exploring the unspoilt landscape.
Along the northern shore of Kekova Island at Apollania
earthquakes have disturbed the land causing some of the
ancient houses to sink under the clear water, creating a
sunken city. Kale Ucagiz Castle (Simena) offers a bird's eye
view of the bays, inlets, islands and colorful yachts
sailing peacefully on the glassy water.

Myra
Antique City
(135 km to Antalya) A couple of kilometers north of Demre,
the ruins include a score of tombs arranged on the cliff in
a jumble overlooking the sea. This ancient Lycian city Myra,
many splendidly carved rock tombs overlooks the magnificent
Greco-Romen theater - on the subject of unique Necropolis it
was a Lycian custom to bury their dead high up because they
believed in this way they were more easly transported to
heaven. In Demre there is also a Church (3 km away from Myra)
where St. Nicholas was the bishop of this Mediterranean city
during the fourth century, and died here in 342.
